The Blue Victoria team recently visited Rubondo Island National Park, a unique conservation area located within the Emin Pasha Gulf Key Biodiversity Area (KBA) in Lake Victoria. Rubondo stands out as the only protected area within Lake Victoria, making it a critical refuge for both freshwater and terrestrial biodiversity..
During the visit, our team had the opportunity to learn more about the park’s conservation approaches, ecosystem management, and biodiversity protection efforts. We explored the rich habitats that support fish species, birds, and wildlife, and gained valuable insights into how protected areas contribute to maintaining ecological balance in the lake basin. The visit also opened important discussions on potential areas of collaboration between Blue Victoria and Rubondo, particularly in freshwater conservation, biodiversity monitoring, community engagement, and environmental education. We are excited about the opportunity to work together in strengthening conservation efforts and ensuring the long-term protection of Lake Victoria’s unique ecosystems.
